Back to School Savings With Barnes & Noble

This post is sponsored by the Barnes & Noble MasterCard, powered by Barclaycard. All opinions are my own.

Do you have kids going back to school? Whether they are going to Kindergarten or college, public school, private or homeschooling, there is one thing for certain – you are going to need some school supplies. The most important piece of back to school supplies in my opinion has always been some great books.

As a college student buying your own books is a must. I guess it’s a sense of ownership and take possession of your own knowledge. I always enjoyed that part of college. I even kept most of my college books and still read over them today. (I like to keep my mind fresh). That’s why when it comes to back to school shopping for my younger kids, we always make sure we start the year off with a few good books they can call their own.

I have kids ranging in ages between 3 and 11 years old. When it comes time for back to school my kids LOVE picking out new books. This started when they were all about 3 years old when I began homeschooling them in pre-school and pre-K. We have always put a lot of value in reading and enjoying books. Before my kids were “school-aged”, my kids have always used books as their “toys”, their favorite “take along” and they have always asked me to help them with “lessons”. Lessons for me and my kids are basically reading books and discussing, workbooks, flash cards, and so forth.

This year my youngest is 3 years old, which meant we took a trip to Barnes & Noble to pick up a few new preschool homeschooling supplies. A few books, flash cards and workbooks. That means we have added one more kiddo to the back to school shopping supply list. Although the expense can be difficult at times, I can’t wait to see my little guy learning and growing this year!

Barnes & Noble knows that it can be a difficult task for parents when it comes to preparing for back to school and have developed the Barnes & Noble MasterCard is a credit card specifically for parents and college students purchasing textbooks, books, and supplies during the back-to-school season and beyond.

I am not a big credit card person but when it comes to having to spend large amounts of money all in one sitting (which is what happens when you have four kids like me), I am always game for finding ways save a few extra bucks. With the Barnes & Nobel MasterCard you get 5% back on your school supplies and textbooks purchases at any Barnes & Noble store or campus Barnes & Noble bookstores.

If you think about it 5% at back-to-school time can really add up! Especially with the average cost for books and supplies being $1,225 at public colleges and $1,244 at private colleges. If you homeschool your costs could be very similar to the cost of college book fees. So using the Barnes & Noble MasterCard for those purchases at campus Barnes & Noble bookstores or at BN.com could give you an immediate $60 savings. This is  definitely the best card for college students, parents of school-age children, homeschoolers and reading enthusiasts who are spending a significant amount of money on school supplies, textbooks and books for school.
