DIY Burlap Wreath and Burlap Flowers

DIY Burlap Flowers

I finally had some time to play with burlap today! I have always been a HUGE fan. Recently I have made Thanksgiving banners for my home but today it was all about using my burlap by the yard! I was at Jo-Ann Fabric recently and was able to pick up some burlap for around $2 a yard! I grabbed 3 different colors, white, light brown (classic) and green.

So  on to the wreath! I had this burlap and pretty much nothing else – so I looked around the house to see what I had to work with and decided to cut some cardboard into a round wreath about 12 inches in diameter and 2 inches wide. Then I took my burlap and cut in into strips of burlap and tied it around the cardboard piece. It took about 3/4 yard of burlap to make this wreath.

***Tip***

Pick a string where you are wanting to cut the burlap and pull it all the way through. This will create a perfectly straight line for cutting!

To make the wreath simply cut strips of burlap about about 1 1/2 inches wide and 8 inches long (it took about 30 burlap strips) and tie them one at at time around the wreath. Repeat this step until the entire cardboard pieces is covered.

To finish the wreath, by spraying it with starch or hairspray to keep the wreath from unraveling.

To make the flowers, I used the other two colors of burlap to create dimension.  The flowers are super cute, but crazy easy to make. Simply take a piece/thread of the burlap and begin to pull it. This will cause the burlap to gather. Roll the gathered burlap to create a flower shape. Seal the flower with a dab up hot glue.

Secure the flowers burlap wreath with hot glue, hang and enjoy! 🙂

***The best part is – I made this whole wreath for less than $2 total!!!
