SodaStream Source Machine and Soda Mixes #Review

soda stream making

I am so excited I was recently offered the opportunity to review a SodaStream Source Metal Starter Kit in Black. I try to eat (and drink) healthy possible however, I have a serious love for my Coca-Cola! For over a year now I have considered getting a SodaStream to help curve my unhealthy habit and save money in our monthly budget. After a great deal of research I have found that using the SodaStream is significantly cheaper than supplying my daily fountain coke habit.

Not only is SodaStream noticeably cheaper by about $0.30-$0.80 per liter (varying by brand of course), it is actually “healthier” for you! Unlike traditional sodas that use high fructose corn syrup and aspartame, SodaStream uses regular sugar or splenda to sweeten. Not that sugar is good for you…it’s simply a better alternative to the massive amounts of high fructose corn syrup found in so many American foods and drinks. Plus with SodaStream you can get creative. You can make Seltzer Water, homemade Ginger Ale with fresh ginger, or use one of 40+ flavors sold by SodaStream, all of which are better for you than traditional sodas.

Your options are limitless with SodaStream. It’s perfect for hosting guests with a variety of soda wants and needs.  I love that  the SodaStream Source machine is tall, small and slender. It fits pretty much anywhere in the kitchen. Taking up very little counter space. Even better I LOVE that it is self sufficient…no need to have to strategically place it by an outlet. It requires no power cords what-so-ever! Use it in daily in the kitchen, take it to the dining room for a birthday party or special occasions, outside for a BBQ or wherever else you may want to make up a special carbonated drink.

The SodaStream Source Machine starter kit included one reusable 14.5 oz./60L CO2 carbonator, one reusable 1L BPA free carbonating bottle with fizz-preserving cap plus a Sodamix Taste Sampler (6 flavors). I also received 10 full size sodamix flavors including: Kook-Aid, Ocean Spray Cranberry, Rootbeer, Ginger Ale, Cola, Diet Lemon Lime, Diet Pink GrapeFruit, Country Time Lemonade, Fruit Punch, Cosmopolitan Cocktail and a MyWater Essence 3 pack.

So far I have tried several of the mixes and absolutely love the Country Time Pink Lemonade and the Ocean Spray Cranberry. So far the only one I have tried and not really liked was the Ginger. However I am kind of picky so it could have just been me or there is a possibility it was simply user error in mixing the drink (I think I used too much Ginger Ale mix).

Pros:

  • Saves a significant amount of money.
  • Healthier than traditional soda.
  • Tastes delicious.
  • Convenient.
  • Perfect for hosting any party.
  • 100’s of flavor options and combinations.
  • User friendly…so easy even my kids can use it.

Cons:

  • Can be difficult to find the right consistency of carbonation at first.
  • Sodamixes can be expensive (however still cheaper in the long run than buying sodas).
  • If you press too hard on the carbonator lever it splashes and spills slightly.

My Final Thoughts: I would most definitely recommend the SodaStream Source! I wish I hadn’t waited so long to get mine…I absolutely LOVE IT!!!
