Meal Plan 8/28: Explore the world of delicious food on a budget! You will never want to eat out again!

 

Please remember that the total cost out of pocket varies on a case by case basis. There are certain “staples” I hope/assume you have in your current cabinets/stockpiles. I also hope that you are buying “stock-up” items when they are free or close to free in order to keep the cost of each meal to a minimum!


Monday 8/29: Teriyaki Chicken Skewers with Rice and Garden Salad

Ingredients: 

  • Boneless Skinless Chicken Breast (Albertsons $1.99/lb, or buy a whole fryer chicken and cut it yourself at 0.79/lb!!!!)
  • Soy Sauce
  • Fresh Pineapple or Canned (hopefully you have some in your stockpile, if not Costco approx $2.50 or use Catalinas at Albertsons to get for FREE)
  • Onions (You should have some left over from last weeks shopping trip, or Walla Walla Sweets @ QFC $0.88/lb)
  • Colored Bell Peppers (QFC $0.50 each)
  • Rice (This is a staple in our home…we buy the 20 lb bag from Costco)
  • Garden Salad (Safeway, Fresh Express Salad as low as FREE, and Salad Dressing is FREE at Albertsons!)

Total Cost OOP for meal: approx. $5.00 (depending on what is in your current stockpile and cabinets!)

Tuesday 8/30: Summer Time Vegetable and Chicken Pasta

Ingredients:

  • Onion
  • Yellow and Green Zucchini (Fred Meyer $0.69/lb)  
  • Artichoke Hearts (optional, we buy ours at Costco)
  • Boneless Skinless Chicken Breast (Albertsons $1.99/lb, or buy a whole fryer chicken and cut it yourself at 0.79/lb!!!!)
  • Linguine Pasta (should be in your stockpile, if not Ronzoni Garden Delight is FREE at Albertsons with Doublers)
  • Bell Peppers (optional, QFC $0.50 each)
  • Basil (optional, to make a pesto)
  • Garlic

Total Cost OOP for meal: approx. $5.00 (depending on what is in your current stockpile and cabinets!)

Wednesday 8/31: Cranberry, Spinach and Walnut Salad 

Ingredients:

  • Dried Cranberries/Craisons 
  • Fresh Spinach (Safeway, Free Fresh Express)
  • Candied Walnuts/Pecans (I bought mine last week when they were on sale at Safeway, if you don’t already have some nuts you to put in your salad, try using your catalina’s from this weeks HOT Deals at Albertsons to buy them with)

Total Cost OOP of meal: as low as Free – $2.oo (depending on what is in your current stockpile and/or cabinets)


Thursday 9/1:  BBQ Chicken, Corn on the Cob and Salad 

Ingredients:

  • Boneless Skinless Chicken Breast  (Albertsons $1.99/lb or buy a whole fryer chicken and cut it yourself at 0.79/lb!!!!)
  • BBQ Sauce (You should have this in your stockpile from all of the FREE one’s this summer. If not than score some at Albertsons for $0.50 or less)
  • Corn on the Cob (Fred Meyer, 6 for $2.00)
  • Salad (Safeway, FREE)
Total Cost OOP of meal:  $6.oo (depending on what is in your current stockpile and/or cabinets)

Friday 9/2: Hamburgers, Hotdogs or Ground Turkery, Left over veggies on the grill or Salad
Ingredients:
  • Hamburger, hot dog or ground turkey (from your freezer stockpile)
  • Buns 
  • Veggies or salad (left over from this weeks meals!)
Total cost OOP of meal: as low as FREE!
