5 Tips on How to Combat Fleas
I received products for free in exchange for my honest opinion. All opinions are 100% my own.
Fleas are seriously the most pesty, annoying little creatures. They get on your animals, in your home and bite everybody in site! I pretty much HATE those things! As a pet owner of 3 cats, 1 dog and 2 turtles – along with 4 very active kiddos, I can tell you we have had to do quite a bit of experimenting on the best methods for keeping the fleas away and out of our home!
1. Spray your yard! Ok I am not a huge fan of using chemical products AT ALL! But when it comes to flees, spraying the yard is a MUST! There are tons of different brands of Flea killers you can try out, we use Natural Flea and Tick Yard Spray and it works great!
2. Hartz Ultra Guard Pro Drops. There are several different brands of flea drops for cats and dogs, but one thing I have learned is they all work pretty much the same. So with that said there is no reason to spend an arm and a leg on prescription Flea protection for your animals. Hartz has some amazing products that work just as good! We use Hartz Ultra Guard Pro Drops for our dog and Hartz Ultraguard Plus Flea &Tick Collar for our cats. Hartz also carries a great line of sprays, powders and shampoo’s perfect for your carpet, furniture and giving your pets baths.
3. Vacuum, Vacuum, Vacuum! If the fleas have made it into your home, then one of the best, most effective way to get them out of your home is with salt. Yes spread salt all over your carpet, let it sit for 15-30 minutes and vacuum up. The salt will dry out the fleas and kill them. I would also recommend finishing off your vacuum project with Hartz Ultra Guard Flea And Tick Powder to prevent the fleas from coming back!
4. Bath Your Animals Often! Bathing your animals will kill the fleas that are currently on them. Doing this often will help keep the flea population down in your home so that it does not become a major problem. We use Hartz UltraGuard Rid Flea & Tick Shampoo for our puppy and we really like it. It does not irritate her sensitive skin and seems to work really well!
5. Use Dish Detergent. Fill a small shallow bowl that is only 1-2 inches deep with water and dish detergent. The fleas are attracted to the dish soap and will jump in and drown. It is best to put the bowl under a light source, like a lamp or nightlight.
