Homemade Nutella Poptarts
Oh my goodness! Who knew that making homemade poptarts would be SO easy, practical and affordable?!?! My kids are always asking me for poptarts from the store but honestly, they just aren’t on our budget. Not only that but they are really so packed for of junk, additives and sugar – I hardly ever even entertain the idea. Well I think I may have just become my kids new favorite parent, with this awesome homemade poptart recipe! It is super easy to do, takes only a few minutes to make and they come out tasting like a little piece of heaven! Even better you can fill them with whatever ingredients your family likes and you already have in your home. I have made strawberry, raspberry, and pomegranate jam filled poptarts, Nutella and next on the list is cinnamon-sugar! YUMMY!
Ingredients
- 2 Pre-made refrigerated pie crusts or Homemade (recipe HERE)
- 1/4 cup Nutella
- 1 egg yolk
- 1 teaspoon milk (or water)
- Toppings: Sugar in the Raw or Cinnamon & Sugar
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
- With a rolling pin roll pie dough out into a rectangular shape. (Just do your best, you can trip the edges away to make a rectangle if needed). Cut into 6 evenly sized rectangles.
- Repeat with the second pie crust.
- Place 6 rectangles about 2 inches apart on a generously greased baking sheet.
- In a microwave safe bowl, microwave Nutella for approximately 20 seconds or until soft enough to spread.
- Spread 1-2 tablespoons of Nutella onto each rectangle.
- Place the top piece of rectangle over each Nutella filled rectangle. Using a fork lightly press the edges of the rectangles together to make nicely crimped edges. (this is just for looks)
- With a fork poke 3-4 sets of holes on the top rectangle pieces.
- In a separate bowl whisk the yolk of one egg and milk (or water) together. Very lightly brush the top of each poptart with mixture.
- Finish with a gentle sprinkle of sugar in the raw (or cinnamon and sugar) on each poptart. Place in the oven and bake for 15 minutes or until golden brown.
- Let cool before serving. Enjoy
