Fun and Easy DIY Bouncy Balls

Spring is finally here and my little boys are so excited to play outside! Rowyn my youngest is obsessed with balls and Kyron is an extremely busy boy so obviously a bouncy ball DIY craft was a perfect activity for them both! We were able to make them together inside in the morning and by after nap time were playing with them outside playing a fun “bouncy bucket” game the boys created!

You are absolutely going to love this craft. It’s as easy as making slime, but way less messy and sticky! THANK GOD, because if I have clean up anymore slime off my furniture and carpet I may scream LOL!

Ingredients:

  • ½ Cup Warm Water
  • 1 TBSP Borax
  • 1 TBSP Cornstarch
  • 2 TBSP White Liquid Glue
  • Food Coloring

Directions:

  1. In a small bowl mix the warm water and borax, until completely absorbed.
  2. In a separate bowl mix cornstarch, glue and food coloring.
  3. Pour the glue mixture into the mixture with the borax. Be careful and fast as the glue mixture will begin to harden after 10-15 seconds. Remove the solid glue mixture from the water. If it is still sticky squeeze it with your hands and dip it back into the borax water mix.
  4. Roll it into a ball. The more you play with it and roll it around in your hands the firmer it will become.
  5. Once dry it’s done…have fun bouncing, tossing and catching your new bouncy ball!

A Few Tips:

  1. When you take the mixture out of the borax water, squeeze it into a ball over water, as the slimy inside will squish out. The mixture will re-harden once it contacts the borax again.
  2. This mixture can make one large bouncy ball, 2 medium bouncy balls or 3 small bouncy balls.
  3. Make sure to dry your hands and continue to roll and work your bouncy ball for 5-10 minutes to create a better, smoother ball. The more you work it the better the ball will become.

The boys had so much fun playing with their bouncy balls. Tossing them into the bucket, rolling them back and forth to each other and just playing together. This was really such a great project!

Of course our Spring time activity was not complete without a yummy snack and a Juicy Juice box! My boys are bottomless pits, so I am thankful that I can provide them with a light, tasty, healthy snack during our craft time and outdoor activity time!
