One of my most favorite dishes to make is homemade apple sauce. My whole family loves it and to be honest it so warm and comforting. It’s like eating a warm apple pie without the crust. The best part is it’s so easy to make and only takes a few ingredients! Once you try this recipe you’ll never want store bought apple sauce again!

I make Homemade Apple Sauce for my kids every Thanksgiving morning as a tradition, but we also enjoy this recipe all throughout the year. It’s perfect with home cooked pork chops, as a dessert after dinner, for breakfast on a cold Fall/Winter’s day or just for the sake of cooking up some yummy apples.

Homemade Apple Sauce is one of the easiest recipes ever! Just put all of the ingredients in a pot, let cook on low and simmer until soft, serve and enjoy!

Here are a few helpful tips: granny smith apples make the best apple sauce for taste and texture. If you don’t have any apple juice you can substitute water and it will still taste amazing. For less chunky apple sauce you can hand mash or put them through a food mill for a nice smooth texture. You can store your homemade apple sauce for up to 1 week in an air tight container in the refrigerator.

Ingredients

  • 6 Granny Smith Apples, peeled, cored and diced
  • 1 TBSP butter
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon 
  • 1/2 cup apple juice (or water)
